DEALING WITH A DEAF; TRAFFIC POLICEMAN'S STRUGGLE TO COMMUNICATE

Mr Mehmet Akif Koc (26, a deaf driver) had a traffic accident in Osmangazi town of Bursa, western Turkey, at 6am today. He was lucky to escape the accident with minor scratches, but the police officers who rushed to the accident scene were not as lucky as him; Mr Koc was deaf and they were harden up in communicating with him

Both parties tried to communicate with each other first by sign language, but the policemen were not as successful as Koc. They then went for a writing method, but failed in that too as Kocs writing was not readable to the officers. The most interesting method was of one of the officers when he spoke to the deaf man loudly, which caused the onlookers laughter.

An investigation about the accident continues, with more advanced technics.

  • Cops there made an effort communicate with deaf than america cops. He said someone drove into his car that made his car flip. That was what he gestured with cops. I might be wrong understand his gesture and cops did good job with him.

  • @sbeee21 they had a incident where a native american woodcarver, that was most of the way deaf, was shot to death by a police officer and the cop got away with it.

  • @peyoteskye71 why would seattle people shoot him.... because of his deafness?

  • @BmP131991 I understand your point. It is maybe cleaner way to communicate.

Gesture language is valuable language too. The turkish driver was maybe too fast with gestures but the police would understand if the driver uses gestures so clean.

At my way I would use gestures and write on papers. Gestures make communication faster.

I just wonder why people respect more spoken language than sign language or gestures.

  • Are you ok? Are you hurting?? I just wondering.

  • Wow. I need to study this a bit more.
