Would a vagabond do things to suit everyone else? I think not. Singing this song his way is the beauty of performing for just hammering out the notes is mechanical and not artistic in any way. One of the best renditions of this piece that I have ever heard in my life.

I love it. A little bit of Wotan in this is great.

Spine tingling. A wonderful rendition of VW's succinct & perfect embodiment of the national character: military, mystic, stoic.

Superb singing in an fantastic ambiance. At such moments I would like to be British!!

Incredible voice.

He sounds like a true, unattached vagabond! It is what you might expect if you encountered such a character telling his story by firelight after traveling by foot along a worn pathway. Come daylight he has moved on.

Love this. Vocally rugged as the character of the Vagabond is within. Love the slight freedoms he takes with note measures, and some of the raspy word endings. If God had a voice on Earth, it would be John Tomlinson. Wonderful.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting these up - this specific performance by Tomlinson is my mother's favourite rendition of "The Vagabond"! You've made her very happy :)

Glad to be at service. She must have been with me in the concert, for JT never recorded the cycle.
