http://www.yummybeats.com This short Tutorial in HD shows you in detail how to make a chopped or gated pad like Timbaland, Danja often uses. This is a common technique when you don't have a synth with a build in rhytmical gate. You can adapt this technique to any other program therefore you just need a normal gate plugin with a side chain.
To show you how the gated synth sounds, there is a complete song at the end of this clip.

  • 0:00-0:35 sounds like somebody's watchin me

  • @streetzack naah, you think? But I can't see much parallels between this and Michael Jackson's/Rockwell's track nor with Mysto & Pizzi's: the chords are different, the melody is different, the rhythm is different and also the instrumentation is different. Maybe the feeling or atmosphere is slightly comparable to Mysto & Pizzi's version.

  • holy f this is just what i needed to know how to do thanx )

  • nice sound! I've also made a tutorial of gating a pad, but in the software "Propellerheads Reason". It works a bit differently. =)

  • Niceness. Simple, yet catchy. Good stuff. Though everyone says this... ALL THE TIME... if you're ever up for a collab let me know. I'm back into my music now & working on a new album.

  • very nice tut. concise and easy to follow.

  • @julioclau First things first, this isn't even my account, apologies to exquisite shes my roommate. Let me introduce myself my name is Andrew, saw this video up on her computer, and didn't think much of it until I came back to my computer to see your dumb ass comment, I know how to use Protools extensively, and Propellorheads Reason, annnnd Ableton Live, annnnnnd Logic, pretty much all of them. It's what I'm going to school for and I work in a production studio in Michigan.

  • @ExquisiteCorpus sarcasm , this is a noob software, you should try pro tools or cubase, the effects quality like reverb, delay, chorus etc etc sounds awful

  • @julioclau Its real easy you see, I'd say about one sentence should sum up all of the different aspects of an audio program..... fucking retard

  • thanks but now please tell me how to use this software please
