Onic V. Palandjian, a seasoned Venture Capitalist with 19 years of professional experience in Europe and the USA, explains why after a successful career abroad he decided to return to Greece. He tries to make the point that there are more reasons to stay in Greece and discover happiness there, but to leave.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

  • @OpinionName Amazing how you managed to read "some of my comments" while I made only ONE and from that you figured out that I am a depressing woman. Thanks, you made me laugh out loud :-)

I would suggest that instead of calling people names and making projections to try to read more carefully before you comment.

    Take care...

  • @MariaRigaki Maria, you're welcome to leave then. This is supposed to be a motivational speech. People who can't live 'outside the box' and cannot be convinced - should really keep their negativity to themselves..!! I've read a few of your comments here and have come to the conclusion that. you're a depressing woman..!! I guess that's what 'gloomy' london does to you...!! If you think Mr Palandjian's views are simplistic then stop argueing about it and leave..!

  • Thank you for the great video and ideas. After 9 years abroad and after changing 3 countries i took the decision to come back to greece. main reasons: family, friends, strong relationships, the sea, the sound of cicadas, the food...exactly as Onic is describing...Thank you for optimism and great thoughts...

  • If you enjoyed this talk, you may see my TEDxYerevan - small country BIG BUSINESS talk

It's featured in my [onicpala] youtube channel

  • Το σεμιναριο με πιο σκοπο εγινε και ποιος μπορουσε να το παρακολουθησει?

  • @onicpala I did but I have more reasons to stay in England than go back (for now at least). This doesn't mean that life here is perfect or that I won't change my mind after a few years. I might need different things in 5-10 years.

Anyway. It's nice to see people trying to make things better in Greece for the next generations.

  • @mariapage147 Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. Did you complete your happiness chart? It worked for me!
