Read the rest of the lyrics, it's about hitting on someone in a bar(or another place where "heaven ain't close" to) based on the connection of having a girl/boyfriend that looked alike. I was confused about it too, thought it was about someone trying to make fun of their ex...

yeah, i think he was saying that it's like he met a girl and he feels this connection to her because someone told him that she used to date a person similar to someone he dated. and if they date the same people, then he's thinking they should date each other. i think. i used to think it was like about a transvestite or something but i really like hearing him explain it because it's much simpler and deeper.

I think what he was trying to say is that the lyrics aren't literal--it's just one of those songs where the words don't make that much sense, and aren't really relevant.
