Kiwis are endangered, so no, but human beings are omnivores. To be healthy we need a to eat both plants and animals. Sure factory farming makes for unhealthy meat and should be avoided, other responsibly raised stuff is ok.
The way I look at it is this, all living things' lives should be appreciated, that includes plants, but we are part of nature and the food chain. We should not feel guilty that we have to kill in order to survive, just appreciate the lives we take to do so.

There is a big diff between an endangered bird that is protected by law & animals domesticated for the purposes of eating. There are also wild animals that (in most cases due to man's intervention) have become pests & need to have populations controlled, in which case hunting them for food is a very good option. Vegan's only exist in westernised society where they can purchase enough nutrients to survive, vegan's have no place in a natural world. Check my other vids terra :)

Where was this one filmed? I saw three today in Russell off a little, quiet trail. Pretty sweet little snuffling sound they make. I thought they were pigs at first, but then caught sight of them and knew what I was looking at. Pretty cool!
