A bittersweet tune about current economic woes. Not as dire as the Great Depression, but there are souplines, and there are people hurting. And there are Wall Street greedheads ("Swells in Gatsby mansions", in the song) who just don't get the enormous damage they have done to ordinary people

  • @singularity64 Hi, Ferdy. Thanks for your very nice compliments! Pleased to report that this song won top honors as "song of the year" at the Oregon Songwriters Association annual event a few weeks ago. On to the Grammy's from here (:-).

I'm heading to a 10-day folk music festival in Kerrville, Texas tomorrow, camping out and playing music all day and most of the night. Should be fun!

  • This is a great song Bill and very nicely performed as well! It's a sad comment on a system which is not necessarily broken but certainly is in need of some drastic repairs. A self regulated market may have its advantages. Unfortunately greed eventually always seems to win out over need (with dire consequences). Let's hope that it can be fixed, as the flow-on effect is generally felt worldwide i.e. when America sneezes the whole world gets a cold.

    Cheers

    Ferdy
