Inner Ears Lesson Part 1

I think of the fretboard as a circle...what I mean is...I close my eyes, then I think about a water
drop in a circle...I pick one note as the tonal center...and the next thing is, I try to sing another note
to build an interval based on the center note, then start guessing with my heart where the notes
are...and try to hit the fret and hear whether it is correct or not..

For example, I used to pick the notes on the 4th string...because it's really good to build the big
stretching interval around it...if the note that I sing is a higher interval...automatically I guess it's on
the higher area (3rd, 2nd and 1st strings), and it works vice versa whether you have horizontal, diagonal or
vertical lines of interval shapes.

Just close your eyes, relax...trust your ears and instincts...good luck!

exactly matt, but we also need some basic understanding with intervals to go deeper than just the heart.. we need to use our knowledge to broaden our musicality .. so why bother to choose just one way.. just learn and absorb as much as we can and we'll never stop growing stronger and wise.. :)

thanks man I've been trying to learn how to improvise better. I just started with backing tracks. I'm not that good yet. BUT i did figure out how to go from the pentatonic box to other scales. I guess i will just get better with lots of more practice.

OMG mas Ponch ...gila, hoki bner guwe ngecek video mas yg ini. emang kandang2 gw suka bingung gimana keluar sama satu improvisasi yg solid and baik juga pas ngeflow sama lagunya. dan ternyata emang bener kita harus bisa maenin imajinasi melody kita yg ada di kepala, at the same time try to sync the head and the hands. so it's kinda trying to sing some cool melodies in your head by sending them to ur fingers to rock it =) LoL makasih banyak mas ! SUKSES SELALU !

Hi! I adore the way you improvise! And I have a question. When you improvise do you stay conscious as to any scale patterns, pentatonics, etc. Or its just the point of instant plaing of whats inside your head??
