A system has been developed to make condo life more comfortable. Via the Internet, it accesses an apartment's security system using a PC or a cellphone, to manage fire hazards, gas leakage, security, and other unexpected events. Emit Condo System, to be released by Matsushita Electric Industrial in July, is a web-enabled monitoring service for condos. With the price to be determined, the company has already started receiving orders from apartment developers. By connecting the intercom and LAN of a condo with a gateway built within the premise, the Emit Condo System offers a wide variety of functions, including distant monitoring and network-based remote control. It can also connect a condo's gateway with Matsushita's data center to manage security, with VPN equipment located in both the apartment and a data center. The system has many other functions: it can record visitors in a video and send it to the user; it identifies family members when they arrive at the front door; it notifies the user when parcel delivery services or guests drop by; and it can remotely control air conditioners and lighting equipment. Matsushita plans to market the system to newly built apartment complexes, with the aim to sell 10,000 units in the first year.
