This is one of the greatest recordings of this amazing work, which I love so much. I also have a great fondness for Grumiaux's first recording with Van Beinum, and Milstein/Steinberg has its appeals, as well as Francescatti/Walter, Szigeti/Walter, and Menuhin/Furtwangler Lucerne. None of those has orchestral playing quite up to this level, or Schneiderhan's uniquely personal way with the score.

Mutter is also a good version, but no doubt, the best one is Schneiderhan's

The first recording I bought of the work, and by far the best performance I've heard.

A marvelous recording for certain Sonnabend--thank you so much for sharing!
I don't know why. The first time i uploeded this, it was in stereo sound, now it's mono sounding. Many of my uploads are so, has somebody an idea, why it is so?

Yes, i totally agree. Schneiderhan did the most emotionally performance and negate his own ego. The recording is absolutely brillant and Jochum gives the best possible accompaniment to Schneiderhans playing.
