Most popular song about Sufi Saint Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalander (1177-1274), the Red Sufi. He belonged to the Suhrawardiyya Sufi order and preached religious tolerance among Muslims and Hindus.
Born and raised in Marwand, Afghanistan the 'red falcon' traveled extensively in Persia and Hindustan. He died in Sindh (Pakistan) where is shirne is being worshipped until today - thousands of pilgrims visit it every year.

The song was made famous by Ghazal singer Runa Laila and has been amazingly performed by great Ghazal/Quawwali Masters like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the Sabree Brothers, Abida Parveen, Runa Laila, Lata Mangeshkar and many many more.

Part of the lyrics - enjoy:)

Oh ho, oh ho ho
O laal meri pat rakhio bala jhoole laalan
Sindheri ja sehvane ja sakhi shabaaz kalandar
Dama dam mast qalandar, ali da pehla lamber
Dama dam mast qalandar, ali dam dam de andar
O laal meri, o laal meri
Chaar charaag tere baran hamesha
Panjwa baarane aayi bala jhoole laalan
Sindheri ja sehvane ja sakhi shabaaz kalandar
Dama dam mast qalandar...

O lord of Sindh, Jhulelal, and Sire of Shewan.
The red robed God-intoxicated Qalandar, glory unto you!
May I always have your benign protection.
Your shrine is always lighted with four lamps
and here I come to light a fifth lamp in your honor
Let your heroic name ring out in Hind & Sindh.
Let the gong ring loud for your glory.
O Lord, may you prevail always, everywhere.
In the name of Ali, I pray to you to help my boat cross (the river of life) in safety.

  • It is excellent. Listening to it from here in the USA gives us Sindhis a different feeling. hope man made borders will disappear and people of Sindh will meet their brothers across the border.

  • its also a sindhi and rajasthani folk song
