[ From the transcript of the speech ]: There is a war going on in this country, and I am not referring to the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. I am talking about a war being waged by some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in this country against the working families of the United States of America, against the disappearing and shrinking middle class of our country.

The reality is, many of the Nation's billionaires are on the warpath. They want more, more, more. Their greed has no end, and apparently there is very little concern for our country or for the people of this country if it gets in the way of the accumulation of more and more wealth and more and more power.

Mr. President, in the year 2007, the top 1 percent of all income earners in the United States made 23 1/2 percent of all income. The top 1 percent earned 23 1/2 percent of all income--more than the entire bottom 50 percent. That is apparently not enough. The percentage of income going to the top 1 percent has nearly tripled since the 1970s. In the mid-1970s, the top 1 percent earned about 8 percent of all income. In the 1980s, that figure jumped to 14 percent. In the late 1990s, that 1 percent earned about 19 percent. And today, as the middle class collapses, the top 1 percent earns 23 1/2 percent of all income--more than the bottom 50 percent. Today, if you can believe it, the top one-tenth of 1 percent earns about 12 cents of every dollar earned in America.

  • @ClarksonsinUSA You are not a capitalist by the definition I am using. Also please watch that video I linked. You just add those letters after the slash of a youtube video url.

    1cap·i·tal·ist noun \-ist\

    Definition of CAPITALIST

    1

  • @PasswordOVER9000 well I have 7 sons and we thrive, good choices and hard work......

  • @ClarksonsinUSA Capitalists achievements are not positive for all. It is positive for themselves.

  • This video is right on the money. Its a damn shame, all the unemployment and how difficult it is to earn a decent livable wage these days for a person who is willing to put in a hard weeks work. We need reform and we need to stop overpopulating this country, there is no jobs as it is!

  • @Jalpseon It almost seems like you are having a conversation with yourself.. :)

As far as out sourcing, people chose what products they buy and where they come from......The consumer has control of those decisions....Business will meet consumers wants and needs.....I will use are purchase of a Chevy Cruz, top quality and engineering at an affordable price made in the USA..

  • @valiciahale half of all adults in this country pay no federal tax's....It is what it is..

  • @PasswordOVER9000 I think you are confused, achieving is a positive for all...

  • @ClarksonsinUSA Not everyone has to be an entrepreneur, nor should they, to comment on a system that clearly works against them. And don't call me something as retarded as a "socialist" - making an observation on one thing doesn't automatically classify me as something else. Perhaps mega corporations should re-invest back into this country and pay their fair share of taxes. Good American workers are outsourced at the expense of the company's bottom line too often as well.

  • Nine people are millionaires and billionaires whose greed knows no end.

  • @JalpseonYou should start your own business and show us how its done>>>>...... :)

    Good luck...

  • @ClarksonsinUSA Today's capitalism isn't the same as yesterday's capitalism. The idea of usurping profit by any means necessary to meet a marginal profit is what's hurting this country so badly.

  • And I thought that an "honest politician" was an oxymoron...And Mr. Bernie Sanders is not just honest, but also posesses a huge common sense, which is so rare, that it could be considered a super power. Thank you!

  • Great Speech congrats thanks for posting this

  • Staggering - families get the IRS shakedown when they're scratching to survive yet.. Exon Mobile made 19 Billion in profit, paid ZERO in taxes and GOT A REFUND OF 156MILLION??? The system is cracked out.
