This clip began life as a film can of 16mm rushes found in a New York storage vault. It had never been seen or screened since it was shot during the first gigs of the band and so became a major digital restoration project. The energy and the stage presence of David Bowie and the Spiders contrasts brilliantly against the mundane backdrop of a provincial English theatre and contemporary audience. Like Mick Rock said, 'they look like they've just landed'. Iconic and unique.
When was this material restored? I work for a company, that includes restoring old film/movie material. I see that it was probably done to an acceptable level, for that time period. But the original film material dirt, which is still easy to see, could have also easily been repaired. But I suppose it all boiled down to what the film company were willing to pay for the restoration.

Thanks so much for this, the clips and the audio are fantastic quality. Did the audio come from the actual footage?...Seems to synch perfectly if not. This is how I like to remember Bowie and tha band. Still playing the old stuff.

The quality of these Mick Rock tapes are exceptional. Far higher quality than anything I have seen before. Thank you so much for posting.
Are there any others you are aware of from March to December 72?
