Rebel Heart

Directed by Ronan Gallagher. Sponsored by Leitrim Tourism and filmed at the Sean Mac Diarmada Summer School Kiltyclougher Co Leitrim, Ireland in June 2009. Sean Mac Diarmada was one of the leaders of the Easter Rising in Ireland in 1916 and also one of the signatories to the Irish Proclamation for which he was subsequently executed along with the other main leaders of the rebellion. The film was shot during the first Sean Mac Diarmada Summer School held in MacDiarmada's native Kiltyclougher in Co Leitrim, Ireland in June 2009.

AND FINALLY: The poor unfortunate man to be the last man to be hanged in IRELAND was hanged in the early 1960s. Apparently, he had murdered a policeman in the Six Counties (or UK) part of the Province. But isn't it nice to know we no longer have death sentences. Violence begets violence.

A LOT OF ILL-INFORMED SOUTHERN IRISH PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU THE LAST MAN TO BE HANGED IN IRELAND WAS A GUY CALLED MANNING IN 1954. HE WASN'T!! THE LAST MAN TO BE HANGED IN IRELAND WAS AN ULSTERMAN AND HE WAS HANGED AT THE CRUMLIN ROAD JAIL, BELFAST. BOTH ULSTER AND BELFAST ARE IN IRELAND, ARE THEY NOT?
