Audi A4
2002-08 models mfg. after Feb. 2002
2008 Top Safety Pick 2008 Audi A4: good performance in front, side, and rear tests and standard electronic stability control
FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Good
Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right
Good Good Good Good Good Good

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:

The Audi A4 was redesigned for the 2002 model year. Audi A4s manufactured after February 2002 include structural changes to improve occupant protection in frontal crashes. (Note: Information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door.)

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of a 2002 A4 with the structural changes in a 40 mph frontal offset crash test into a deformable barrier.

The frontal offset crash test ratings also apply to the station wagon version of the A4, known as the A4 Avant, beginning with 2002 models manufactured after February 2002.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail and B-pillar.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low, and it was negligible from the B-pillar contact.

  • @jaffacake1578 You completely missed the object of my post. My point is that the quality of the Audi is far superior to that of a ford focus in every conceivable way down to the way the doors close and the secure feeling this invokes. The extra 10k lies in the attention to detail, technology, high quality components, and greater sporting appeal. And I would love to see some data that proves "the 2005 ford focus has the best structural safety cage of any car in its class." You won't find it.

  • @ineverrememberthese do you think i care about you comparing some stupid car dors, yes, WOW! i am amazed that audi's doors close better... what i am not amazed about is the price of the audi compared with the old focus, and besides the 2005 focus has the best structural safety cage of any car in it's class.

  • @jaffacake1578 Sit in an Audi. Now, close the door. THUD. You will feel secure as if you're in a bank vault. Now, get in a Focus and close the door. You will hear a hollow metallic ping. This is because the door is mostly hollow. And metallic. These "5 star ratings" don't necessarily translate into real world safety. Case in point, search crash test 4x4 vs honda. Granted this is an older Honda... however, new hondas don't feel much safer to me. Its glowing crash ratings don't look so good there.

  • @partizanovac994

  • @TheJoePepper no, i'm on about the audi's like the a3 and the a2 and the q7 ect

  • @jaffacake1578 Uhh? My '96 A6 has 5/5. This particular A4 has the highest IIHS rating of 'G' in all categories with 4/5 rear and 5/5 front for side impact.

  • poor dummy

  • I got to ride in an 2006 A8 and it was cosmic.
