The Travellers finally arrive at the emigration depot of the port of Antwerp where they must be examined by a physician before allowed on board ship. Mottel meets two other children there: a young girl, Goldeleh, who suffers from the eye disease trachoma and has no hope of going to America without medicine and little Mendel whose family has vanished.
