Beijing Olympic Worries Over Flu Outbreak in Hong Kong
Yuen Kwok-yung,at the University of Hong Kong, described the infections as "just a bad outbreak" caused by genetic variation in normal influenza viruses.
"There are no signs of SARS or bird flu," Dr. Yuen said., referring to the severe respiratory disease that gripped Hong Kong in 2003 and to avian influenza, which could cause a pandemic if it ever became readily transmissible among people. H5N1, the strain of bird flu likeliest to spark a pandemic, was ruled out in the deaths of the three Hong Kong children, who had no underlying disease
Ever since the outbreak of SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome--which killed nearly 800 people around the world, some 300 of them in Hong Kong -- the city's health officials have been extraordinarily vigilant, fearing that a seemingly innocuous cluster of cases could quickly mushroom into a lethal epidemic

this exageration of the bird flu is just making matters worse by scaring the citizens. this will have a negative impact on the economy -_- also, its better to spend a few more billion on virus prevention insteat of these propganda shits on the media. a few billion is nothing compared to the trillions US spend in its military, especially the money wasted in Iraq, which is useless, and the "black" spendings.
A deadly virus, EV71, has broken out in Anhui province with over 900 cases and the deaths of 20 children. The outbreak began in March but wasn't reported until this past Sunday.4/3/08
