The very motivated nature of the Marine Corps prides itself on being the most active and fierce warriors and soldiers. Just being a reservist does not seem active enough for regular Marines and the reserves are usually looked down upon.
Marine reservists broke through the Iraqi defenses in the Gulf War faster than the Army could clear through the desert in Southern Iraq.
Pay is negligible but reservists get an almost normal life while the active men get the excitement.

There might have been a clear definite answer 'bout 20-25 yrs. ago which would've been active=good, reserves=not so good, maybe even a joke. Now, I personally don't know dick 'bout the other services, but now-a-days in the Marines you can rest assure you'll be qualified either way.
And don't worry, if trigger-time is what you want, don't join the Airwing, just tell your recruiter you wanna go DIVISION or GROUND. I'm quite sure they'll accommodate 'cha.

A lot of comments. Served as a Marine in two wars, Somalia, and a lot in between. If you are not a Marine or soldier, cheap shit is just that. Seen comments on Viet Nam, ask General Giap about Hue City and how many of the North Viet Nam regulars and Viet Cong "bought it". One of the best recruiting flicks made! I figure I am a third generation Marine.
