The Ballin Jack band was originally from Seattle where they grew up as childhood friends and then later toured with Jimi Hendrix. They were widely unknown and almost lost in history until years later emerging as Godfathers of what is now known as Hip-Hop. In 1970 Ballin'Jack released their debut on vinyl containing an abundance of funky horns, jamming grooves and classic drum breaks. DJ's in New York notoriously used two of their albums on two different record players in order to elongate the original 2:47 Found A Child into their own extended dance-mix, by switching back and forth from one LP, to the another. (get it: two turntables and a microphone) This relatively minor hit was later sampled, looped and then used again where it is most recognized today in the old school classic 1989 Grammy winning song, Bust A Move performed by Young MC.

  • These guys were practically the house band at Bill Graham's Fillmore East in NYC in the early 1970's. They kicked ass. They opened for just about everyone that played that venue.

    GREAT post! 5 *****
