  • The best, and most cost effective thing to do, is to take your dog to a vet who has access to a floroscope. A floroscope is something like an x-ray motion picture machine. If your dog has a trachea problem it is easy to see with this machine. Your vet should make sure your dog has a trachea problem before he can treat it. Even the best vets can misdiagnose this problem. This can lead to your vet prescibing medications that don't work, or may even do more damage. Get a floroscope done.

  • I'm soryy to say that Gremlin died September 7th, 2008. It had nothing to do with his trachea problem. I went on vacation for two weeks in August like I do every year. He was so depressed that I wasn't with him that he ate and drank very little. His kidneys started to shut down, and he slowly lapsed into a coma. I guess he died of a broken heart. I hope this video helps someone. Gremlin will live forever on YouTube. God Bless my little Gremlin.

  • God Bless this baby! But why in God's name would you allow him to lick himself if you knew it would lead to his gagging and coughing???!!!! Why didnt u make him wear a collar at home?? This is AWFUL to see him suffer like this!!!

  • sorry for your dog. well i have a 12 yr old grey toy pooddle. who has had this cough for a month or so now. im saving to take him to the ver soon. economically im broke basically cuz i get ssi and so does my mom. and what we get togeather is only enough for rent and groceries and bills. i know he;s going to need more thural testing to see whats wrong with him. and i dont know how we are going to cover the vet bills. i dont know what to do. im scared he might die on us if we cant treat him soon.

  • @briankann The Harness suggestion? EXCELLENT ADVICE. I had to use one for my elderly dog also. She was 15 and her heart enlarged and started to collapse her trachea. That is the "cough". Vets CAN help for a time also with medications. This condition effects the lungs also with fluid. I know lil Gremlin has passed on as the owner said but maybe this can help someone else. Believe me, when your dog has this, eventually the meds won't work and you'll know......well, "when it's time". Hard thing

  • don't feed him much.. make him comfortable

this video makes me sad.. i had same problem...

  • my dog (9year-old) had same problem. the best thing you can do is never let the dog run much. get him comfortable.

"Fat" and breathing hard could kill your dog in the next day. remeber...

  • Vets everywhere aren't doing enough to raise awareness of this high risk. It is also often misdiagnosed as "Kennel Cough". OK, so you already have this problem, now what? For starters, do not consider putting him to sleep over this. Try switching to entirely wet foods. Stay away from hard foods. I agree that Gremlin needs a floroscope by a good Vet. You can add a small amount of water to your new wet food to ensure that it goes down easy.

  • Gremlin does have a serious Trachea problem. I don't know how you walk Gremlin, BUT you should NEVER use a regular collar. You must always use a harness. It is probable, based on his breed, that when he has been yanked or pulled to get him to obey you, it is probable that this is how he acquired Collapsed Trachea. Standard collars with small breeds are trouble waiting to happen.

  • My dog has collapsing trachea, he coughs less if he's happy, especially when I'm around,so I don't even take a vacation anymore, I just stays home, he's like my child. I know how sad it must be for you to loose Gremlin, he's on the other side of the rainbow now.

  • rest in peace gremlin.....

  • Its very common in small breeds and there is nothing you can do if its reverse sneezing look this up instead of collapse trac my dog has it and it looks like an asthma attack if thats what it looks like dont to think about it, it dosnt look like that its more reverse sneezing or both but still theres not much you can do and my vet said my dog wont die from it its common so good ill stop panicking
