In August 1999, NVIDIA made its most significant announcement with the launch of the GeForce 256 at the Intel Developer Forum in Palm Springs. Originally codenamed NV10, the GeForce 256 brought a number of revolution features to PC 3D graphics. The GF256 was NVIDIA's first graphics chip to implement advanced video acceleration features such as HDTV compliant motion compensation and hardware subpicture alpha-blending. We all watched as the company climbed through the ranks with the TNT, TNT2, GeForce, and GeForce2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, MX, FX, GT, GTS, GX2, GTX line of graphics processors to date.

  • NVIDIA, ATI, MATROX, S3, POWER VR and the legendary, pioneer 3dfx. A big thumbs up for all this creative companies who made possible real time 3D possible.

  • It's a shame that AMD and Nvidia have stopped making demo's to show off how close to photrealism they can get and have instead shown off tessellation and physx in bland demos. I would love to see an update of the Human Head demo with hair.

  • I think the original gf and gf3 were the most important. fx was a huge let-down.

  • Adrianne vs ms Dust fairy?

  • "YEARS ago" i meant ;)

  • However i do NOT think that software developers go anywhere NEAR the full potential of any GeForce card before it is superseded by the next. Year ago you had a chipset with limitations, no limitations imposed upon you were so severe that software developers had to find new tricks, better and far more optimized programming techniques..etc. Now all the power in the world is afforded to developers but none know like the old school developers how to milk the chipset dry!!

  • I've stopped playing games now but the GeForce cards gave me some fun times once upon a time ;)
