Kuala Lumpur, 5 July 2008 -- The Malaysian Mega Sale fever caused a festive and fun sort of pandemonium at five major shopping malls today all over Klang Valley. Organised by Shopping Malaysia Secretariat, this was the first time the Mega Sale was launched in a staggered session manner at various malls. An array of exciting activities, performances by bands, dancers and street walkers to thrill shoppers were lined up from 10 am till 10.30pm.

The kick off began at Sunway Pyramid where the VIPs were treated to an exhilarating hot air balloon ride after the ribbon cutting ceremony by Tourism Malaysia Secretary General Dato' Dr. Ong Hong Peng. A unique shopping attraction, the hot air balloon ride is available for all Sunway Pyramid shoppers who spend RM200 or more. After a welcome speech by Sunway Pyramid Senior General Manager H.C. Chan, honoured guests and shoppers were treated to a very interesting dance performance that portrayed the four different shopping precincts within the mall.

Dato' Dr. Ong said that the Ministry is committed to continue working with Malaysian retailers to enhance sales revenue in the country. "Malaysia is poised to be a world-class shopping hub and the shopping centres are well-equipped with state-of-the-art technologies such as the traffic guiding parking system to indicate the number of vacant bays available at Sunway Pyramid."

Next, the Mega Sale Carnival made its way to 1 Utama where Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director-General Datuk Razali Haji Mohd. Daud launched the event with five resounding hits on the gong. It was followed by traditional Malay and Indian dances as well as a rousing Chinese drum performance.

Datuk Razali loves shopping in Malaysia, no matter where he is located. "Even when I was stationed overseas, I will shop in Malaysia through mail order and have goods shipped to me. The quality is unparalleled and the price is reasonable, even after shipping!"

Likewise, Pempena Chairman Dato' Philip Chan believes that Malaysia lacks nothing when it comes to shopping. "Mega Sale can only be effective if the country has a good product. Malaysia definitely has what it takes. Our people are friendly and the Malaysian shopping experience is second to none."

The excitement then continued at Mid Valley Megamall & The Gardens and Berjaya Times Square. The launch gambit finale was accompanied by showers of confetti and pyro at Pavilion. It was a fitting end to a full and stimulating day of the 9th Malaysian Mega Sale launch. All over the country, the malls and retailers are offering enticing promotions and discounts to help you stretch your ringgit further.

General Manager Shopping Malaysia Secretariat Tony Mariadass sums it up nicely, "It's not just about shopping during this season, it's about being in the country and experiencing the multi racial culture, local cuisine and staying at five star hotels at a fraction of the price that you normally get outside of Malaysia. The Mega Sale truly has something wholesome for everyone."
