@TheRattrodder Hey Ratrodder,, Good POINT MADE.. I like the way you explained it here, thats exactly the way to shot so ya don't have streeks or blotchs in your paint. Take it easy Pete

@62imperial62 Me personally I usually like to do usually 2 medium wet coats and then sometimes to even out metallics I'll do a mist coat with 50% overlap. With clear, I'll also usually do 2 medium wet coats with around 2-5 mins flash time between coats, unless I'm working with a clear that air bakes and then I do 2 wet on wet apps with no flash time between coats. Also I ALWAYS check my air pressure at the cap and adjust to 10lbs for HVLP.

with an hvlp, what do you suggest for air pressure? I hve heard opposite info. do you suggest heavy first base coats or light first layer base coats? also heard opposites on this. Thanks

Thanks for the response. You are the only painter that I feel tells it like it REALLY IS. I am getting ready to spray my car and have found complete conflict on some major topics in painting. One famous fellow, says to lay down a heavy 1st coat of base with 75% overlap. Another says to do light coats. One says to let the layers of clear dry completely inbetween, and the other says tacky. Both using hvlps state 13 psi, the other 40 psi.
I respect and need your input. Love your videos and truth.
I love your videos. Can you please tell me how to mask off the door openiing so I can spray the jambs without spraying into the finished car? there must be a simple or logical way. I appreciate your input.
thanks

@62imperial62 outline with tape then mask it off with paper, very simple. You might want to take off the door seal off the jamb and tape it off there, then when you put the rubber back on, it will hide the tape line. Pete
