  • to me - as a huge Smiths fan - this is by far the most beautiful and moving cover of their song...

  • I bet his spirit still haunts that 83 Telecaster.

  • marigosu - thank you!

  • 2 people hear me say those words...and still they don't believe me...

  • Even though Jeff's cover is the first time I heard the song, this song means a lot to me. Even though the sound is slightly hazy, it gives it such an ethereal touch, just as Jeff's soul gave an ethereal touch to all he did. Years after discovering JB, I was riding my bike atop the riverside on a beautiful day after hard times. This song came on, and I've never felt more free than in that moment.

  • james franco must be jeff buckley on the movie !!! he looks like him!

but the voice will be probably from someone else... or no one else, cause jeff is unique.

  • @Mygalej You're not the only one. I obviously wish Jeff could have made it his way. But I really love it. I get that some of the songs on disc two are unfinished, but I feel them. While I started out liking the more melodic ones best (Nightmares by the Sea, We Could Be So Happy, Jewel Box), I see the beauty in all of them now.

  • Am I the only one thinking Sketches is incredible?

yeah, i'm definitely not disputing so real's greatness, just that people who know him for hallelujah and satisfied mind will be surprised that he doesn't just play around 3 chords in all his songs with no band.

this is why people may be put off getting into the back catalogue, and suppose that because they only like hallelujah, and he went and died before being successful, despite the fact he was, he wasn't really that good...

word. a few songs of off sketches jaammm...morning theft is great. opened once is sublime. vancouver isn't bad, and witch's rave is pretty sweet too...the second cd is nigh unlistenable though (i realize it wasn't finished, don't worry).

haha it's funny you should mention so real, i think that song is brilliant...fantastic song

  • @heymanniceshot1

as a devout buckley fan, and someone who does believe that he is a fantastic song writer, i don't think that this is what makes his genius. it is invariably his covers, specifically hallelujah, that people first hear of him, and someone used to hearing the covers are unlikely to proclaim so real as evidence of one of the best songwriters ever.

it's definitely an acquired taste, sketches especially. but this is a gorgeous cover. and @whump123 when did #records sold=good music?
