Live News Open for 'Ralph Renick and the 11 O'Clock News,' sponsored (with LIVE commercials) by Luby Chevrolet. WTVJ, then Channel 4, was a CBS affiliate in 1957.
@007InMiami Yep. The Romper Room set was in the same studio and they put the moms on the opposite side of the room, so the news desk was in the middle. I suddenly wanted my mom and walked in front of the news caster. It wasn't Ralph Renick as he was on in the evenings.
WOW! Miami in August, 1957. LONG before the Dolphins, Heat or the Marlins (even though you people had the 'Miami Marlins'). :-) Umm, the stuff you'll find on YouTube...
Hey, I wonder how many hot women (actual sexy, female Miamians--women from the local area) were "trotting" around the city back in '57. I bet she probably couldn't be "too hot." With Florida (especially South Florida, from what I've heard) being such a neo-conservative place until about, oh, maybe the mid-2000's! Lol...
That was the time Associated Artists Productions had leased most of their pre-1948 Warner Bros. theatrical library to local stations- so lucky Miami viewers got to see Dick Powell's 1937 stirring musical, "The Singing Marine" {"Over the seas, let's go men!/We're shovin' right off, we're shovin' right off aga-i-i-n-n-n"} before they went to bed....or nodded off during the movie, with endless commercials inbetween...
