[More Edited Info]

OK, this was posted a couple of months ago as a private video. I want to show it to a few more people, but YouTube has locked the 'Friends' list on it. Rather than re-uploading it, it's easier to set it to 'Public' - sorry if you've already seen it. More original content VERY soon.

[Edited Info]

Once again, a video had no intention of making before being prompted. Hey, who knew Jen likes stuff from Germany?! ;)

It was made as a private video for her first, but now she's seen it, I thought I'd throw it open to the usual suspects so you don't think I'm being too lazy with my videos! ;)

This was taken in July 2007 in a huge forest near where I was staying in Germany. It was before I started filming for YouTube, so it is just a bunch of stills, but you can see the prototype filming for what became my 'Walk to the Beach' video.

Sorry there's no real plot, but it was a weird mix of serene and scary as I walked deeper into the forest with no idea where I was going. The music actually nails the feeling quite well, and was exactly the length of the video, with no planning!

Oh, keep an eye out for the random stone ring in the forest at 0:24!

Ash, I guess you could view this as a response to your one in the park the other day!

[Original Info]

As promised, I walk a mile into the forest that backs on to Gimmeldingen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

I hope you like it ;)

[Edit - You can put the above addresses into Babelfish's page translator - it's rubbish, but gives a rough idea. It does notably mis-translate Weinstraße (Wine Road) as Weinst Raße (Crying Race). Stupid typing monkeys.]

  • Ok so for the birdie story. Had my door open to just my storm door (clear glass) one morning. Also had my window shade up on the other side of the room. Evidently the birdie thought it could fly straight through. It hit the glass so hard the door shook. It lay wriggling on the porch. I gently cradled it, brought it inside and let it rest it's injured eye and body. After awhile I placed it on a branch outside and it stayed a long while...then when I went to touch it's little head it flew away :)

  • Wow - I'm impressed it was OK after that big an impact. They often don't survive. I imagine it would have been a very nerve-wracking hour or so for you as you tried to help it. Makes me smile that you did though.

  • Michael, scary how alike we are at putting images of nature to music. The birdie made me cry and I'll tell you about that in another comment...limited characters and all of that. This video is priceless. One reason I want to visit Germany is because of a silly reason...but a favourite animated movie my son and I share is Kiki's Delivery Service, based in Germany. That movie moves my spirit. Five hundred stars for this one.

  • I had exactly the same thought when I saw some of your stuff. It remined me so much of this video!

I haven't watched Kiki's, but I know the Studio Ghibli animation well. Porco Rosso is one of my favourites of all time!

  • Ok, that was the freakiest video I've ever seen. First there were the Jurassic cockroaches on the flowers in the beginning, then you entered the Forest Of All Things Dead! Bugs, birds, all deceased? Was this forest possessed? I need a young priest and an old priest! Seriously, nice scenery.

  • LOL! Just another day in sunny backwoods Germany. Oh I've seen WAAAYYYYY weirder things than this, but I can't get permission to post them as videos...

  • It was really amazing to watch this birdie recover. He'd hit the glass so hard that he left an imprint of his little eye and some tiny feathers stuck to the glass. It was a true miracle that he lived, AND that his little eye seemed to heal before MY eyes. I just kept petting his head and talking softly to him (and sobbing from guilt at having my door open). He was such a beautiful little fellow. I'm so glad he lived. I didn't even mind the birdie poop all over my hand :) (yes, I washed it off)

  • Aww thanks! :D

These pictures are from just before I started on YouTube which is why they're stills, not video which they would be now. I actually kinda like the way this turned out, so your comment has made me smile!

  • Really nice video...love the music,too!

  • Glad you liked it Joseph. It's now a year since I took the photos, and I'm back in the same town where the footage is from.
