If you grew up in the Mon Valley in the '60s and '70s, chances are you listened to Terry Lee.
Mon City native Terry Lee Trunzo was in high school when he started DJing at Charleroi's WESA. From there it was a short hop to McKeesport's WMCK (1360).
Trunzo turned the sleepy 5,000-watt AM station in the Elks Temple on Market Street into the unlikely top station for teens --- at least during his time-slot. Although the signal was limited at night, 1360 also launched T.L.'s impressive local entertainment empire.
But the radio business and the Mon Valley were changing in the late 1970s, and after stints at other stations, Trunzo left Western Pennsylvania two decades ago.
Ever since, T.L.'s whereabouts have been one of the enduring mysteries of McKeesport. On Saturday at the Palisades, the mystery was solved. More than 500 people packed the venerable dance hall to welcome back a local legend.
