@moonus111 Yeah man a giant space boom will save the American economy.

Also, there are inherent problems with a rotating space station which would lead to catastrphic failure
A torus or cylinder would not work as well, though they might make for great sci fi

The economic pressure created by both the limited resources of the planet, and environmental pressures are beginning to show up. Colonize the Moon.

@PLKanter Bernal Sphere makes more sense for large space based settlements'''see Gerald O'Neill THE HIGH FRONTIER he was a Professor of Physics at Princeton Univer.

@PLKanter building the components off-world would be much more cost-effective than building on earth and lifting them into orbit. mining the moon for materials would avoid the necessity of stripping earth of resources. the moon should be our next launchpad for future missions to the other planets of the solar system. why we don't have a viable lunar base yet is baffling.

The modular design is great for space stations and space hotels but as far as massive space colonies I don't think they would work that well. For space colonies I feel the torus, or the cylinder designs are where it's at. The Babylon 5 station or the 2001 station are examples of the 2 types.
Thanks for the comment!! I'll have to check out Babylon 5. My feeling is, a torus could be made in sections. Of course, any construction requires materials, and how can the materials be transported into space? My thought is that with modules that can be added together, each module can fit inside the payload bays of current and future shuttles and ships, and then put together in space. (Not made clear in the animation.) Like legos, any shape or design could be made and built.
