Yes that's true. Since his bike has some red color on it, and he asked at "Mario's Magic Shop" for a red boomerang bow tie since his bow tie is red, he must love red as his favorite color which is why he talked to his bike in the beginning of the movie saying "you're the best bike in the whole world" as he was wiping it with a cloth. Also, he told a police officer that his bike means everything to him which could be the reason why he doesn't like to ignore that his bike was stolen from him.

I don't know about anyone else, but the sound the sign makes when the bike crashes through it really makes this moment even more hilarious.
