It's the first day of spring, and I get the chance to railfan the Florida S-Line for a few hours with Nick Mayer.

  • Danny I feel the same way. ATCS takes the fun away from train watching! Map, timetable, and a radio is all you need! Maybe some bug spray this summer!

  • We're getting spoiled Danny, great job! I like the little history side tracks in your vids, Florida was built on the rail and many are unaware of where the rails used to run. To see where they used to be go to GoogleEarth and tic the box that shows rail, Zoom in to the 300 mile level and you'll see black lines showing you where many lines used to be.

  • Those refrigerator cars are taking a bouncing beating on the S-Line. How much does ATCS cost? Yeah it does take the sport out of railfanning. I'm a rail fanner from Ashland, KY and to tell you the truth if you want to see 60 some trains a day visit Russell, KY every 10-20 minutes theres a train rolling in.:)

  • I love the historical notes!

BTW, I'm very familiar with the wood trestle. I always looked forward to that stretch of road so I could see some trains as a child during the 1970s.

  • @CSCtalent Vitis Jct is on the Wildwood Sub so you will find it on that timetable.

  • ik when theres a train coming without radio, time table, or atcs..... my dads an engineer on the cumberland mtn pushers(csx cowan,tn) i just get a phone call sayin "were about to go get a train," but danny you should come up to the nashville chattanooga sub sometime we get alot of train action over some of the steepest grades csx runs on

  • @aaron13133 I got this info from Kalmbach's Railfanning Hotspots:

CN & CP Railroad Frequencies, Manitoba

    161.415 (87) Road Channel

    161.205 (73) Rivers Sub Dispatcher

    160.935 (55) Gladstone Sub Dispatcher

    CP

161.535 (95) Carberry Sub Road Channel

    160.425 (21) Minnedosa Sub DS

    161.115 (67)

Hope this helps. Don't ask me about ATCS. I don't railfan with it and don't know anything about it. I use radios and timetables.

  • @distantsignal if u can figure this out, you are my new best friend: ok, i railfan the CP mainline that goes through winnipeg MB canada, its called the keewatin sub. i think. the nearest ard is LOGAN YARD, now, how do i figure out frequencies? and can my iPhone4 do anything? i might be getting a scannedr in summer..... but can you help me out a bit???

  • my dad used to drive a road unit for central truck lines out of tampa. they closed in 1989. not too many people left who even remember their trucks. wish i could find more pics of them.

  • @distantsignal how can i get one for my area?

  • I dont think that ATCS is bad i mean i use it and i think its great bit then i dont have the time to sit out at the tracks for hours so i just open it and if i have one in the area i go and see it and come home. its a great thing.
