Roadtrip to Corin Dam - Part 1

This is part 1 of a drive along my favourite road to Corin Dam, approximately 25km south of Canberra. The dam is one of the water supplies for Canberra.

The 2003 bushfires went through much of this area & the evidence of their destructive power is obvious through much of the drive.

These fires even reached the edge of the suburb that the drive starts in but thankfully no houses were damaged here. The suburbs Chapman & Duffy to the west was not so lucky with over 500 homes lost & the deaths of 4 people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra_bushfires_of_2003

Once I reach the dam in the third video you will see the impact of the drought on Canberra's water supply.

I was inspired to make this by Deepsouthcycle's videos of his home town & surrounds.

It got to the edge of my suburb but because its newish there weren't any of the big trees for it to spread to. It was one weird day, it was as dark as midnight except the sky was this dullish red with this faint blob (the sun) - and this was 2pm on a summers day.

From wiki: Corin Dam, an earth and rockfill embankment dam completed in 1967, has a capacity of 70,900 million litres. It is the highest dam on the Cotter River. Capacity of the Bendora Dam is controlled by releasing water from the higher Corin Dam into the Cotter River.

Im an Aussie living in Canada now, so it was great to watch this and remember what it's like to drive on the other side of the road!!!! I miss home, it looks so nice and neat!
