    Hi Valerie,

I am a fan of your videos and work but I have a question about "balance" theory and the section at the 2:51 mark. I'm just wondering if there is something like a false dichotmy with the options presented. In that frame you state that you can either change your views on God or your brother, which seems logical but leading away from other considerations. What if the information presented, or your assumptions on god's view of homosexuality, was simply misinformed?

I'm sure you are right. In general models like this are oversimplifications.

A two year old offering her parents a stuffed animal is in no way comparably to narcissism

I think of it as a empathy mixed with a benign form of narcissism, but perhap self-centeredness is a better word than narcissism. The child experiences and is distressed by the adult's suffering but can't properly imagine what it is like to be that adult, so uses her own desires --what would i want if i were crying--as a guide to how to behave.

That's a high integrity way to live. I have said for a long time that if I had to do the killing I would be vegetarian. The convenience of having someone else do the slaughter lets me sustain my hypocrisy.

Take a good look at the jewish yahweh and the christianity yahweh - they are almost complete opposites. what sparked yahweh's benevolent turn? why did jesus come when he did (as opposed to anytime else, like the flood)? Why was it the poor and oppressed being favored when yahweh previously favored the wealthy kings and priests?

roman occupation and taxation and the constant military defeats come to mind. jesus came favoring exactly what the jews were suffering at the time. how convenient

well of course. if she thought suffering was a representation of her god, why would anyone think she would try and help these people because it would ruin both this representation of her god and ruin her entire setup.

some people who worked for her said that she actually spent the donated money on herself and intimidation-ran nunneries, not the poor, she was relatively unknown in calcutta and died with little acknowledgement by calcutta.

    she was a con artist

I think the correct would be "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

    Right?

Thank you for replying. I was just wondering if the problem wasn't really about a god or brother in that example, but rather more about emotional development. Seeing the world, or problems, as black and white seems like a pretty limited perspective. A more mature person might be able to hold both personalities as dear while suspending judgements on either. Thank you again. Your work provokes reflection and much admiration.

I'm going to hate myself for posting this later, but I have to point out that it's often agreed that murder, rape and torture (all three) are often consequence of psychosis on part of the criminal caused by intense feeling of being disrespected.

That is, disrespect in a sense a Jewish person may experience when standing in the middle of a torch-and-pitchfork party during the early days of Nazi Germany. Not talking about moral justification, but the magnitude of emotion experienced.
