This is what happens when you don't study Sun Tzu's art of war. Of wait.....I forgot, it wasn't even available then in Europe.....it was still in China.
But seriously, when you march into unknown territory without much knowledge of the ground ahead and the enemy ahead, whilst moving through a small path amongst very dense forest.
Sun Tzu would call this "hemmed" in ground. This is where you really want to avoid. It is an omen for disaster.
