The song is called a stridulation, and it's used to scare off other males and attract the ladies. They also carry around martini glasses and Barry White records.

man... i hate that nose. I have one in my room right now, wont let me sleep. Then again, crickets in texas are fucking load as hell, and it sounds more like shrieking than a normal cricket chirp.
