without the "joes" "x's and o's" dont mean shit
-
@timo092601 and they wouldve thrown all over it too.
-
Well hell, they better get at least 7 yards. I never had only 5 people in the box. 5 v 5. Offensive win every time or someone has a come to Jesus meeting
-
@timo092601 Wow. Pro coach here
-
5-2 front or 3-5-3 both in cover 3 should be used to try too stop the spread
-
What about a 5-2 front or 3-5-3 in cover 3??????

@swschlick1 well, start the film again, because i'm seeing a 4-2 nickel out of the gate here, and a 46 alignment at the end for certain which stopped any runs....the problem is this...if you rush 4, they outnumber you 5 to 4..unless you have 4 DL studs, you won't get there......if you rush 6 or 7 you have the advantage then..it's a numbers game as well as scheme....the basic precept in getting pressure is to have more rushers than they have blockers....it's really very simple!
-
@nyjetsfan56 Sure you can......i've done it and it works

@swschlick1 Better look at the film again, he shifted his defense into a bear (46) several times throughout and was very successful doing it. Also, you don't have to have 4 defensive linemen, just 2...the others can be LB types with speed who can rush.....the bear is effective....always getting at least one man free to the QB....bringing the FS down also gives it the ability to take away the edge running game too WS.....with the right type of personnel, it would be effective against any offense
I would have defended this with a 46 front....as they did at the end of the film...all gaps covered, nowhere to run....BCR ends, no zone read for the QB either

@timo092601 you would defend this play, sure, but then Oregon could simply check to a pass play and there would be no way to stop it.

@swschlick1 passes take time to develop....having a free rusher every play will be hitting the QB before or during the throw..you think that won't disrupt the offense? Stanford actually ran a 46 variation on some plays and stuffed the offense from both running and passing.....they just didn't stick with it

@timo092601 Not true. Stanford ran a 3-4 the entire game. And Stanford never stopped Oregon in the second half. Vic Fangio is one of the best defensive minds in the country and believe me, if there was some magic solution to stopping Oregon's offense, other than having a dominant defensive line, teams would have used it.
