Willard explores the idea that we ultimately choose what meaning to attach to each experience that we have. By understanding that we are ultimately deciding what an experience means, we open ourselves to options. There is always more than one perception, and always more than one possible meaning to every experience.

  • I enjoy your personal input. I'd have to say, for myself, I was on a self destructive path once. I once thought negatively of myself and always put myself below others because of how hard college was. I've learned that the mindset is everything, and that our thoughts create our own reality. Think positive, no matter the outcome. This will lead to a positive self. The only enemy is yourself.

  • Wow!!! really awesome video with great and important lesson in the life .I like it when u say that everything happens in ur life ,u have the choice of what meaning u have to attach with ,but u know that there are some influences that are stronger than what u think and they pull u backwards as u mentioned in the beginning of the video the place u have grown up in or may be the culture or may be any thing else have bad impact on the person life and may be this is the reason 2 think negatively .

  • This really struck a chord with me. Thanks I will keep working through all your videos,

  • The notion of "punishment" that he mentions in this video is something that makes "religion" a bad guy in society. I see a lot of videos lately trashing religion. I think that's a crap viewpoint. Rather, it's the distorted viewpoint that "authoritarians" (parents, teachers, etc) that these people bring forth. Our lack of knowledge in anything can mislead... but again, religion is meant to give us the foundation we need to live a productive life... just like a habit.

  • ...experience as a gift from the Universe as it changed my life and I learned that there must be a higher meaning to my life ans so I began my search for the truth in all things. Loosing my leg was not devastating to me it has been an inconvenience at most.

    Thanks for your video.

  • Very well put. It makes perfect sense. Most people don't realize that they literally have their own life in their hands and no one else does. Many people consider themselves victims of circumstances and so....they are. I also lost my leg due to a bone infection. While I was in the Army I got a malignant tumor and was treated with 7,000 RADS of radiation and this lead to me getting the infection. I saw this as a sign that I should believe in God, I had been agnostic all my life. I consider this..

  • Sounds like a very similar attitude towards what the Buddha once said, "The mind Is everything; What you think, you become"

Gandhi said something similar too, "Change yourself, and you've changed the world."

I say this though - your feelings thoughts and perceptions are your own responsibility. If it doesn't work for you, change it. =)

    Awesome video!

  • good stuff!

  • Yes I enjoyed and listened. Thankyou.

  • Yes. Perception is everything. This is also what is taught on social psychology in a similar context. We see this everyday on:

    Politics

    Advertising

    Day to day conversations

Also, other people can turn this around to influence the other with what message they are trying to send out. If you can notice the subtleties, it can become more interesting.

  • This video is great. Perception is everything. Reality is what you make it, it is not something thrown on you. This series is great.
