This is a short video of the first running of Bachmann's Class 55 (55001 St Paddy) running on our layout.

We acquired this new locomotive a few weeks ago but did not like the sound that it produced so we sent it away to South West Digital to have a new speaker fitted, with a baffle - unlike the speaker fitted by Bachmann which had no baffle.

As to why Bachmann chose to do this it is very hard to say and, really, quite baffling!

A baffle or enclosure makes a big difference to the sound, as you can hopefully hear in this video. The speaker was fitted in the fuel tank and sounds quite impressive so is worth having done.

  • @thoscar02 and does the loco come with that sound installed?

  • Hi Starwarslegobuilder,

Yes, this loco certainly did come with the sound pre-installed by Bachmann. However, you can also fit sound to most modern locos now and many of the older ones too.

  • @thoscar02 can u please tell me where to get a model like that i would love to add it to my collection

  • Hi Starwarslegobuilder, the Class 55 is made by Bachmann and, although this particular model is no longer available, Bachmann do still produce other Deltic models, in both blue and green liveries.

  • Spectacular!!

  • Hi jmsschooner,

No all digital decoders, including sound decoders, should work with the various dcc controllers, including Hornby and Bachmann.
