Not sure why my video cuts off short. I had much trouble uploading this one to Youtube for some reason.

I built my own cross rails for my car top carrier. You can too and save lots of money.

Solid Aluminum square bars 2024-T3. The width on mine is 0.875" and the length is 4ft. Fits my 2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 perfectly.

U-bolts are from Lowes and are Stainless Steel with lock washers. I have them cranked down very tightly against the foam tool box padding.

  • This is good idea and I am the same dilemma that I don't want to spend a lot of money to this crossbar.

Do you mind if you could message back the company name ? There's a lot in ebay searching the 2024-T3 and the cost is not $10 per rod.

    Thanks a lot.

  • @joeyco67 Hi and thank you for your post.

I purchased my aluminum rods on Ebay and this was a year ago so I guess the price has gone up since then. Not sure. I would keep looking around. You should be able to find some cheaper than what you would pay for the rails from the dealership. I hope you find something.
