The REAL Weaver Shooting Stance

Weaver was a sweet guy. You could see his nervousness coming through in this video. Aside from his obvious talent, he had one other advantage: LOOK AT THE SIZE OF HIS HANDS. Enormous. His thumb is longer than the middle finger on most people. Biggest hands I've ever seen.

@RoscoeT99 the guys that were competing were mainly world war II GI's who were taught that if you took a fancy stance in a gun fight and tried to line up a perfect sight picture your enemy would kill you. They were taught point shooting. Larry Vickers does a good video explaining this. Also especially in low light circumstances, at that time most sights were useless in combat.

One of the best issues, I still have it and read it all the time. RIP Weaver

It's comical to think that this was "revolutionary".
Imagine aiming at the target? Who would have thunk it?

@redmunkee or you could train yourself to go to a stance correctly.

@gunfreaksaredead I'm sure he was planning for the Zombie Invasion.

Props to Mr. Weaver for having the guts to go against the grain - for years - to develop a shooting stance; this is why isosceles training and discussion is even happening today. Don't assume it would have just come about - the U.S. military had its chances for over 50 years to develop and teach something more effective other than a one-handed grip, but even it failed to get the ball rolling.

yeh.. it also allowas double tap headshots acuurately

For me a good combat stance is one that you go to naturally when SHTF, (good ergo also means good accuracy) and one that gets you right back on target the fastest. In my experience, iso delivers these characteristics better than weaver.

I doubt if he was too but he is the one who got down a precise system and made it popular. I am 60 years old but I knew some very old pistol shooters when I was in my early 20's who said men were considered girls or sissies who shot a pistol with more than one hand in the early days. That is until Weaver made it acceptable, popular and practical.

you should use what ever stance that works for you. that being said......the weaver presents a smaller target to the opponent since your body is turned partially sideways. the same goes for one handed shooting! even a smaller target! isosceles....well....just paint a big 'ol bullseye on yourself because your as big as a barn. but it is a more stable/accurate stance and easier to move right or left.
everyone owes this man a huge debt of gratitude. all the modern techniques flows from him!
