This video shows my first attempt at a DIY aquarium background in a 3ft tank. I made the tank, the internal filter set up etc. It is full of water and filter working in this video. I flushed it and run it for 4 weeks before setting it up in the house. Now I'm keeping an eye on the PH etc to see if there is any fluctuations before I put fish in. I will also not put any plants in for the first few months for the same reason.
I used 2 x Styrofoam blocks with rendering cement, the last few coats I added cement colouring. And for touch ups I used acrylic waterproof none toxic paints.
Please let me know if you have tried the same materials and how it went? Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
Since the video I have placed a pair of Jewel cichlids in the tank (for the kids) and they have already spawned, so far so good.
I'll post another video in a few weeks to show how its going, with the fish in so its a little more interesting.

  • The background looks really cool! Im sure your fish will love it! I hope to make one like that soon. How much money do you get if i click on the add on the side?

  • Hi @CCichlids. Thanks for your comment.

I know nothing of the adds, I don't see them and I don't recieve any money at all?

    Cheers.

  • How bigs the tank?

  • Hi @equalscapitald and thanks for your interest.

    The tank is 3ft long.

  • where did you buy your paint? and did you use a sealer I want to do the same thing but dont know where to go, I like the look

  • @brightviolence. Hi and thanks for your questions and for viewing.

With this one I used no paint and no sealer, the colour is mixed into the last few layers using a powdered concrete colour. You really need to flush out this type of background plenty of times until PH and other toxic levels are neutralized.

Thanks for viewing and thanks for your question.

  • nice job . . .

  • well created bro excellent job

  • @9364peter job well done though

  • Hi @SuperAaaaa123456. The same question has been asked and answered before (on page 2) but here is the answer for you again.

No fish were in at this time because I was testing for any toxins that may have leached out of the background, I was also cycling the tank.

    Thanks for viewing.

  • where is fish
