Ok here is the new and improved vertical wind turbine! I made a lot of changes with this model from the last video I posted. I decided I desperately needed to loose some weight and decided to make the entire turbine out of pieces of aluminum I purchased at Home Depot. Total cost for aluminum was approximately $50.00. I also needed to use lower friction ball bearing which I purchases of ebay for approximately $ 15.00. The frame was made from some spare pieces of wood I had laying around. if purchased add approximately $20.00. I purchased a 12V 300 rpm DC motor off of ebay as well that hasn't arrived just yet. That was only $16.00 with shipping. All and all this entire assembly can be made for under $150.00. Oh yeah, I also work at a metal fabrication shop so I was able to cut, drill, and bend my own pieces as needed... that was a big help!

Well no, generally its the opposite with VAWTS. They can utilise turbulent wind that changes direction better than a HAWTs which must always turn in the direction of the wind before it makes its power.

It appears that the change in wind direction almost stops the turbine. I would think that is counter productive.
I wonder if all vertical wind turbines have that problem.
