Quickly done, some bad Japanese because I stink at reading something quickly and speaking it at all, not to mention in Japanese.

Books:

English-Japanese Dictionary
http://www.amazon.com/Kodanshas-English-Japanese-Dictionary-Japanese-People/d...

A Dictionary of Japanese Particles
http://www.amazon.com/Dictionary-Japanese-Particles-Kodansha/dp/4770023529/re...

Japanese Sentence Patterns for Effective Communication
http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Sentence-Patterns-Effective-Communication/dp/4...

Japanese Verbs at a Glance
http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Glance-Kodanshas-Childrens-Classics/dp/4770027...

Also, another suggestion for a good fiction book from Kodansha that's basically about the horrors of the atomic bomb. Really interesting/horrifying book. Interesting because it was a real event.

Black Rain

  • I recommend Genki I or Elementary Japanese Volume One (both are on amazon.) Genki I, I used in a classroom and really liked; it's humorous and has character - I really like Genki textbooks. Elementary Japanese I used before I had taken any classes and liked it best out of any book I used when I was teaching myself. I'm not sure which would be best, I hope it helps . =)

  • Hi there... I really liked your recommendations, but I was wondering if you're an autonomous student of Japanese, and if so, what's the coursebook you'd recommend. See, I'm learning and teaching the little things I know to a group of 4 Mexican students. I do need a syllabus I can base the course on. Thanks for your help in advance.

  • I'm glad it helped =) The particle on is really good. There's another one they have on particles too that seems good so if you go to buy it in a store and can't find the specific one I was talking about, the other kodansha one seems good too. I think it's called How to Idendify Japanese particles .. or something

  • Thanks for the recommendations! I have Kodansha's elementary kanji dictionary but I think I'm going to pick up some of the books you mentioned. I think the one about particles could be really useful for me. ^^
