This is dedicated to all the long-time Vince Gill fans out there. Here is Vince and band on the northern California leg of the 'When I Call Your Name' Tour. It was about 102 degrees in the shade at the afternoon show in the Sacramento valley, so the guys keep their caps on. The air conditioning on Vince's bus went on the blink in Utah, and he had to play the fair circuit in such out of the way mountain towns as Bishop and Sonora, and at the Placer County Fair! Rare footage from Vince's first solo tour!!!

Special thank you to Vince for humbly allowing me to film your show! It was fun hanging out with you and finally getting to hear you live! All the guys in the band were great musicians, and just very nice, cool dudes; it was great chatting (well the boy finally 'made it'!) with y'all. If you ever read this, Vince, thanks for all the great music and the memories (and for the t-shirt!).

I've heard several of his renditions of this song, and I still think this one is technically the best. Enjoy!

  • Hey Josh, I have Martin Parker on Facebook and just shared this video with him.

  • @2handsforchrist THAT IS SO COOL! INTERESTED TO HEAR HIS COMMENTS, MAYBE SOME REMINISCENCES ABOUT THAT CALIFORNIA TOUR! :)

  • I am basically a rock fan, but i have to say that vince kicks most guitar players ass big time.. go vince !!

  • Agreed! And he can play some great rock when occasion demands. Even Clapton could learn a thing or two...

  • Alright! I'm gonna say this V e r r y carefully, because I have tremendous respect for Vinces ability, but why in the Hell didn't he give his steel player, (who I believe as a steel player myself, has the ability) to keep up with him, a lead on this hot song. Come on Vince!!! This guy could cut the lead if you'd only give him a chance. Marc Trainor.

  • What do you mean? He have him the first solo! You could say the same about Tony King, who is at least as good as Vince...yet he didn't get to solo at all. This was a supporting band, not like his other bands in the mid-late 90s, in which almost everyone did a solo (and frankly which gets boring after a while).

If you want more than a couple measures of steel, check out my video of "Look at Us."

They each do a solo trade off two different times during the song. This is some excellent guitar playing. You'll have to add the w w w dot youtube dot com /watch?v=bNcby_27K_o
