This is Carter Copters technology demonstrator gyro. The rotor and propeller are both variable pitch which allow the jump takeoffs. The rotors also have 20 lbs. of weight in the tips to store inertia.

  • How close to the operating envelope is that? Or how risky? What's the procedure?

  • @tsbrownie I don't have the answers to your questions. This is a prototype gyro made by Carter Copters for research and development. They are trying to implement some of these features into a production model. Not sure what the progress is on that.

  • @tchick There's a lot of cool things one can do in aircraft design, but it quickly puts the craft (operationally) out of the hands of the average pilot.

  • @tsbrownie I agree. I don't think this gyro would be for beginner pilots.

  • Curious, Is Carter , making gyrocopters with this jump system? Does the Monarch Butterfly come with a Jump system versus a MLS?

  • Carter's gyros are not yet in production. It looks like their models will be 2 place and 4 place enclosed gyros. I wish they would market either a gyro or a system like this for us single-place guys. Right now the MLS system is the best prerotator that comes on the Monarch Butterfly and it does not jump but can takeoff in very short distances.

  • Nice ROFLcopter.

  • Instead of expecting forest rangers and park rangers to patrol thousands of miles in jeeps wouldn't this be much, much cheaper. Not for every single operation, but for checking large areas. Even border patrol.

I have been fascinated by these and regret not getting into them when I had money, but these have so much potential! If you need a marketing/promotional guy please let me know. These should be everywhere.

  • How did you come down so vertically? was it a high wind situation?

  • @BALAZSER1 compared to a real heli these are cheap.

  • That looks like a very good escape most natural disaster situations vehicle to me. If only they where cheaper so everyone could have one?

  • that is a fast high jump there
