Coverage from TWC with Jim Cantore of powerful category 4 Hurricane Opal with a live report from Pensacola, FL. as it moves rapidly towards the Florida Panhandle in early Oct. 1995...Thanks to Tony (Hurricaneadventures) for sending me this footage.
@ryan12378 actually no Hurricane Opal made landfall on Santa Rosa Island, Florida...Hurricane Ivan made landfall in Gulf Shores, Alabama. That's a 50 mile difference which means a lot in a landfalling hurricane. They affected the same area but didn't hit in the exact same spot. Pensacola got much worse in Ivan than Opal because it was on the east side of Ivan which is the worse side..during Opal Pensacola was on the west side which is the weaker side
Actually, most areas saw a surge around 6ft with a peak of 8ft in Panama City. Opal's surge was smaller than usual (for a major hurricane) because of its fast forward motion and lack of time over water.
