After the WWII bombings in Palermo, the city's plain view on the open water was replaced by a depressing wasteland where Luna Park attractions popped up, hiding the sea. Connecting the formerly Arab quarter of La Kalsa to it was a rather tricky task, but architect Italo Rota seems to have pulled it off. He made the whole area ampler, covered in green and opening the city center to the seaside. He also added a playful touch, by putting thousands of ceramic statues.
