Bill Cooke on Jesus (part 1 of 2)

Dr. Bill Cooke, an atheist and skeptic, talks about Jesus from a historical perspective. Dr. Cooke holds that Jesus was a real historical figure whose life is misunderstood by most Christians. The talk was presented at a Reason and Science Society meeting on Thursday 16 September 2010 at the University of Auckland.

@Pablo113 Well, think this through. Bill Cooke is an atheist - he doesn't believe Adam and Eve existed. But he believes Jesus existed.

If you believe in Jesus, then Yahweh is God the father...thats the god you believe in.

@Pablo113 He doesn't believe any of the Yahweh stuff... have you watched the video? He's just saying there was a person called Yeshua who thought he was the prophet but got himself killed, then his story got mythologized and turned into a religion.

Jesus probably existed. He was a jewish rabbi. The rest was made up, most of it by Paul. Son of God? No, just a guy with a message.

@Pablo113 Dude, I'm an atheist. I'm not saying *God* exists, but that *a man called Jesus* existed. I think he was a teacher who had some revolutionary (and anti-establishment) ideas, and was crucified by the Romans because they were worried he might cause a stir. But I don't think he was God, and I don't think the miraculous elements to the stories about him are true. Still, I think there is good evidence the man existed.

@AucklandRSS thanks for the upload. you wouldn't believe how many of my atheist friends deny the historical existence of Jesus of Nazereth. When I try to show them what biblical scholars and historians have to say on the matter, they dismiss because they believe they have a "christian bias". Well now I can show them this video by an atheist scholar. So thanks again.

@AucklandRSS, I did watch the videos....I go one step further. I dont think the guy even existed, he is a fictional character. Bill thinks there was an actual person, I dont.
