i just came back from there
we did a 4 day jungle trek and i got 27 leech bites

is it true that if you apply lotion or something on the surface of your skin leeches won't be interested to suck on ya?

buy yrself a leech socks once u're there, its cheap and get a bottle of eucalyptus oil or locally found 'minyak kapak'..they ll konw what is it and just pour it on where the leech is at.. it ll fall off and die.. goodluck for the expedition!

holy crap! I'm going to Borneo for a World Challenge expedition next year and i am so scared about these massive leeches!

Mosiguard has an insect repellent that drive leeches away. it is quite effective and can last for 10 hours. or you can soak your clothing in tobacco with water and dry it. the leech also dislike such smell.

NotreDameRugby, no need 2 worry. i don't like them either, but i go jungle trekking anyway. when our mind is focusing on photography n race, we will forget abt them, as they do little harm n just a small irritation.
