Texas Tonk is an editorial documentary about the mission to save and revitalize traditional country music and the American honky-tonk. Filmed by Hectic Films photojournalist David Karnowski, the story features Bakersfield cultural figurehead and country music purveyor Rockwell of Oildale's famous club Trout's.
The journey takes viewers across thousands of miles of terrain and into the open skies of Texas where Rockwell hunts down traditional country musicians and songwriters in an effort to discover hidden talents that run in the veins of central America.
Interviews with independent artists and street performances are combined with an analytical assessment of where country music is today and where it's going in the future.
Also featured in the documentary is Joe Bielinski, the Mayor of Country Music, who has been hosting traditional country music on the FM airwaves in Ft. Worth and beyond for over 20 years. You will also see performances and interviews with musicians Bode Barker, Kimberly Murray, George Allison, Clay Thrash, The Norwood Twins and more.
Texas Tonk is due to hit the net in June 2011.
