The guitar wouldn't be much standing alone, but it's purpose here is to support the singer without getting in his way and it does a good job of that.

Yeah, I'm a guitarist collaborating with a singer and I've been going around Youtube listening to bands that he likes that I'm not very familiar with. When I listened to this band's stuff I was like, "Well, there's not much here to work with. The guitar is all really simple. Anybody could write that." But Ashoftomorrow's right; these songs are driven by the singer and his vocal melody. That's where the artistry is.
